Counseling Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence: A Comprehensive Model
This 6 CEU workshop defines unique issues connected to intimate partner violence (IPV) and addresses basic obstacles in identifying and engaging IPV clients, such as safe screenings and connection to higher level resources. The training also details a comprehensive approach to working with IPV survivors that is embedded in the larger context of involved systems and the best practices of the domestic violence movement, while also focusing on specific clinical presentations of this population and evidence-based interventions. The presented model outlines 4 fundamental phases of the survivors’ journey to safety and healing with their respective primary therapeutic tasks. Finally, the workshop also stresses the need of community support for both the client and the clinician.
